Home Improvements--Worth the Price? Seeing Through Window Replacement Costs

According to a home improvement study conducted by Realtor Magazine Online, the cost versus benefit of window replacement in homes varies widely throughout different regions of the country. It pays to know how your city stacks up.

Los Angeles Window Renovation Versus Dallas Window Renovation

Los Angeles windows are some of the most expensive to replace, at $10,285 for a midrange replacement. Home improvement enthusiasts replacing their windows in Dallas can expect to pay around $8,641 for their new windows. It sounds like the Dallas residents are getting a bargain, but actually, the Angelenos get much more bang for their renovation buck. The resale value of their homes is increased by around $18,964 with new windows, meaning that they recoup 184% of the money they put into the project. The Dallas window renovation projects only increase the houses' values by about $2,750. The Dallas residents recoup just 32% of their investment.

Undertake Home Improvements Wisely as a Seller

Many home sellers are interested in maximizing their profits by doing some remodeling. Before starting any remodeling project, make sure that you research what sort of return you might expect on your remodeling investment. Keep in mind the less-obvious benefits of remodeling, too. For instance, when you replace old, poorly insulated windows with newer ones, your heating and cooling bills might go down because the new windows are much more energy efficient. That is a valuable benefit--no matter where you live.
